11 years ago I auditioned for the London Youth Symphony and was told I wasn’t quite ready and given suggestions to work on before the next season. I did everything they suggested and more going every weekend to Toronto to study at the Royal Conservatory. I was made principal bassoonist the next season and the year after won the right to perform with London Youth Symphony as a soloist. I had begun training as an opera singer and London Youth Symphony offered me the opportunity to showcase my young talent. London Youth Symphony offered me the supportive opportunity to grow as a musician and as a person. The education and discipline developed during my years helped me remain on the Dean’s list through my four years in Opera Performance at Western and graduate studies at the Glen Gould School of Music. London Youth Symphony offered me the opportunity to make many amazing friendships that will be lifelong.
I know that fundraising has been difficult for the youth symphony and they are fighting hard to keep the doors open. Lerners’ support would mean a great deal to the current London Youth Symphony musicians and for generations of musicians to come. Thank you for your consideration.
