I have had the pleasure of working for Parkinson Society Southwestern Ontario (PSSO) for two years now. Over these past two years, I have seen this organization take giant leaps in creating innovative programs and services that enhance the quality of life of those affected by Parkinson's Disease. With only 7 staff members, Parkinson Society Southwestern supports over 5,500 people living with this disease. Many of the programs and services this organization provides include: 35 support groups, undergrad research program, exercise programs (Rock Steady Boxing), and educational programs, such as the new free online Parkinson Education Program (PEP) for Community Caregivers, Living Well Conferences, and Regional Conference. Each program and service PSSO provides is supported by donations and fundraising initiatives. We do not receive any government funding. With the support of Lerners LLP, not only will PSSO be able to expand its educational programs, but more funding can go towards helping the next generation gain interest in the field of Neurology (specific to Parkinson's) so that wait times decrease and information about this deteriorating disease is understood across Ontario.
