I had my son in March 2018 at 29weeks at London Health Sciences Centre, and he was in the NICU there for 44 days and another 16 days in special care nursery at St. Thomas Elgin General Hospital. On the Friday after being away from my son for 24 hours while I went home and packed my essentials, I arrived to the Ronald McDonald House and was instantly made to feel at home. The staff was insanely welcoming becoming a family away from home and made what was one of the most difficult times in my life that much easier. They were always thoughtful from making sure I ate or slept to asking me how my son is. Every milestone we hit they were just as excited as if it was their child. Seeing what they did for the children that were staying there for treatment and the ones that were there to be with their siblings was heartwarming. They were truly a godsend to me and my son and many other families. Without them I really have no idea how I would have gotten through that time without them. It truly is a home away from home. I make sure to take my son there whenever I can and they’re still so excited to see him and learn what new milestone he has hit. I will always remember what all they did for me and my son and for that will always be family.
