South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre

I believe that you can solve the problems of the world from your front porch. Your front porch is a window into your neighbourhood; it's a place to say hello or chat with your friends, both new and old; a place where everyone is welcome and you can stay for any length of time; a place where you are always greeted with a smile. For the Westminster neighbourhood, located in Southeast London, that place with the front porch feeling is the Neighbourhood Resource Association of Westminster Park, better known as NRAWP.

NRAWP provides programming for children and youth, such as a daily breakfast program, after school youth drop in space, summer leadership training for youth, mental wellness for teens and an active youth council. Adult programs, such as a resident led crafting program, seniors' fitness, walking groups and a neighbourhood association are also run out of this unique space. NRAWP also hosts community events such as Community Fun Day and Fright Night and partners with other community groups on Movie in the Park, Yoga in the Park and a bicycle rodeo. Last year alone, 1,858 residents joined programs and services offered through NRAWP and visited those blue portables 6,424 times. Volunteers with NRAWP contributed 2,119 hours and 3,313 breakfasts were served to children by NRAWP volunteers. It is a busy place that works to ensure that, within the diverse neighbourhood of Westminster, everyone can belong.

NRAWP operates from four, 20+ year old, bright blue portables in the tiny neighbourhood of Westminster, under the umbrella of the South London Neighbourhood Resource Centre. Even with a leaky roof, a stove that works on its own schedule and sinking front steps, NRAWP has built connections that have lasted for generations in the Westminster community. Simply put, NRAWP has built a lot of community here in Westminster.

Unfortunately, the NRAWP home is literally falling down around them. The foundation has shifted and the building is sinking. Repairs are needed to the foundation, roof, walls, windows, stairs and ramp. With all of the joy NRAWP has given to this neighbourhood, I would like to help support efforts so that they can continue to do what they do best.

There are already so many wonderful stories that have been shared and charities that have been nominated through the Building on Success: Lerners 90th Anniversary Charitable Giveaway program. A group like NRAWP, whose mission is to build a community, only has so many fundraising avenues open to them and I hope that your company will see the value in helping to preserve this space. We all have that place, that place where you always feel at home. For those living in Westminster, it's with the Neighbourhood Resource Association of Westminster Park.
