My story with Ronald McDonald House Charities starts nearly 30 years ago in 1989. I was newly diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma (Cancer), in a new city (Vancouver) with my mom and with nowhere to stay. Our hospital Social Worker suggested we stay at the Ronald McDonald House and began the paper work. My mom and I walked through the front door at Ronald McDonald House Vancouver that night and the rest is history. Jump forward 30 years, here I am, sitting at my desk as the Manager, Family Programs & Services at Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario (London ON) writing you this story. The impact Ronald McDonald House Charities has on me had a lasting effect on me. I am now fulfilling my life-long dream...to give back and support the charity that supported my family and me all those years ago when we needed it the most. Every day I come to work understanding that the littlest things I do will create a lasting impact on the families we support at Ronald McDonald House Charities Southwestern Ontario. Every day I honour the children that were not as lucky as I was with my treatment. I see each day as a gift and regardless of how tough the day may be, there is never a question that I will be walking right back through the front door the next day to do it all again. Ronald McDonald House Charities is more than just a House or a charity, it is a life-long family.
