We were delighted to learn that Lerners' is giving away $90,000 for their 90th year anniversary! What a lovely way to give back. Here is our story in support of the Children's Health Foundation who raises money for equipment in Neonatal intensive care at London's Children's Hospital.
Our daughter was born 3 months early weighing only 1 pound, 4 ounces. Her first few days of life were scary including major surgery to repair a part of her intestine. We were told she only had a 50-50 chance of surviving. During her first two months in NICU, our daughter was in a high-end incubator and required a respirator to breathe. This specialized equipment was provided to NICU by the Children's Health Foundation through its fundraising efforts. Without this specialized equipment, along with the excellent care of the nurses and doctors at Children's Hospital, our daughter would not be alive today.
Our daughter was finally discharged from NICU after 4 months. At that time, she weighed 4 pounds. We still had a long journey ahead of us with assistance from physiotherapists, speech therapists and occupational therapists from Thames Valley Children's Centre as our daughter was slow to develop in terms of fine motor skills and grow motor skills. For example, she didn't walk until she was 18 months.
Our daughter is now 8 years old and a loving, kind, active girl. She loves biking, singing, dancing, swimming and playing with her little brother. She only weighs 40 pounds and is still followed once a year by the growth clinic. Otherwise, she is healthy and happy and very helpful!
We are so fortunate to have such a wonderful Children's hospital in London and such talented health care professionals and support staff. The NICU was provided with life-saving specialized equipment that saved our little girl. We are so grateful to the Children's Health Foundation for raising funds for this equipment.
Our daughter is an ambassador for the Children's Health Foundation and helps them raise money so that more lives can be saved, just like hers.
